Our host, Sonam the carpenter, has a decent view from his rooftop over the Zangla Palace. Our volunteers relax in his courtyard reading or sunbathing after work.
But one of us has his workplace right here. Gábor, a chef in his previous life (of course he has to practice his skills on that field too over here) is dreaming of becoming a tattoo master in his new one. He had a chance to prove his ability.
After two less successful trials last year, now he finished finally the stone carving. Besides the English, Tibetan and Hungarian "Csoma Sunschool” text still has some space for the name of a main sponsor that we are still looking for.
Evelin, our volunteer substituting teachers in the local government school (there are opportunities every day for her) holds yoga classes in the afternoon to channel accumulated stress, on one of the most spectacular Yoga terraces on Earth, half way up the Palace road.
The palace showed some weathering since last year, we will have to repair the water spouts.
Re-plastering the main facade will be the big challenge this season. The Hungarian distributor of Petzl kindly supported us with equipment to substitute the expensive and wood-consuming scaffolding.
Removing the lose old plaster reveals the hidden problems of the wall. They are substantially worse on Csoma`s room. We are keen on preserving at least this room in its original condition, but the structural walls show some dangerous wear. We have to consider next year the replacement of some walls of it too.
The names of our brick or beam sponsors are getting carved on the material. We highly depend on these small contributions.
This season we have a plan to complete 2 classrooms of the solar school, and the stone foundation of all the rest.
The glazed walls are the most expensive part of the construction. 15 square meters of double glass, two openings on each.
Please consider supporting our cause. Csoma used to study all his life to pioneer the Tibetan language and literature, we are pleased to offer the construction of a Solar School to the village that accommodated him almost 200 years ago.
